Working out your real hourly figure
The rate on an offer is rarely what you end up with per hour. Working out the real figure takes a few minutes and a month of records.
Start with what you kept
- Total payments received
- Minus platform and payment fees
- Minus costs: equipment, software, postage, travel
- Minus the share set aside for tax
Count all the hours
Include setup, messages, revisions, learning and record-keeping, not just the time on the task itself.
Divide
What you kept divided by all your hours is the real figure. In the first month it's often low, because setup time is high. Compare month two with month one before drawing conclusions.
